This year was a special one for Mercury Tattoo. To go along with the annual art show, we celebrated our 10 Year Anniversary. The show opened on October 30th and was followed by a continued party down the street at the Blue Comet. We were lucky enough to have some good friends, Jay Berndt and Chris Fullerton play an amazing show to help us ring in another year!
Also, to go along with the party and art show, Scott was able to hang a selection of his personal work. He has been especially busy so there are a half dozen or so new paintings as well as a selection of his work from the 4 previous Pushing Up Pumpkins shows. He will be posting on his own blog about all of those as soon as time allows.
A special thanks goes out to Holly Frabizio and Marcelo Rivera for all the time and effort they put into the decorations, and again to Holly for her skills baking and preparing most of the amazing food. I say most because I should point out we also got some pretty incredible vegan goodies from Vegan Treats in Bethlehem PA.
Below are Photos from the art show, and from the Blue Comet. Most of the artwork is for sale so feel free to call the shop to check pricing and availability.

Here is a video from our dear friend Jay Berndt from his Cd release party for "Sad Bastard Songs" The album that Scott did the cover painting for!
Jay also taped his set from The Blue Comet and HERE is a link to his song "Black, Tan, and Wasted" from that night.
I wish I had a video of Chris Fullerton. He played an amazing show ( I know, I have the mp3 files from his set). Check out the link to his myspace and hear some of his damn fine country music!

New Full-Time Artist!!!
Hey Everyone,
Mercury Tattoo is very excited and proud to announce the addition of Full-Time Artist Frank Guthier!!! June is going to be a very exciting month for all of us here. We hope that many of you will stop by the shop in the coming weeks and welcome Frankie to the Mercury Family. Speaking of family, we wish Frankie and Krista the very best of luck as they await the arrival of a baby girl!!
Some tattoo photos and background on Frankie G. :
Frank Guthier, "Frankie G," as most of his friends and clients in the area know him as, has been tattooing in Bucks County for the past 11 years. He has done guest spots in Europe and all over the United States. He calls Mercury Tattoo his new home as of June 2010.
Frankie has a deep passion for Tattoo History and appreciates all types art and expression. He enjoys working on Traditional Style tattoos as well as the Neo-Traditional style that combine some of the timeless designs from the 1900's with some of the modern techniques of today. He works on and even builds some of his own Tattoo Machines. He is constantly drawing and painting, often working with Watercolor as well as a variety of Mixed Media tools.
When not tattooing, Frankie leads a very active life that includes: hiking, fishing, biking and almost anything that includes the outdoors. He spends time at flea markets and antique stores, what he refers to as, "finding the unknown treasure." He loves working with metals, he even has a small foundry that he casts brass once and a while. Frankie tries to find time to ride his Scooter; he has a great fondness for old Vespas and Lamberettas. He and a few close friends have discussed starting a Scooter Club in the near future.

Children in tattoo shops.
I have put off writing about this for a while now. Let me first state that we here at Mercury Tattoo do NOT hate children. We have no problem with them, in fact, we are happy to have children attend our Annual Halloween Art Show Opening Party. However, children do NOT belong in the tattoo shop during normal business hours. Unless you are stopping in to say hello. Many of our friends and clients have really great children and we quite enjoy seeing them for a quick "hello" every now and again.
Parents, under NO circumstances are you permitted bring a child with you when you are getting tattooed. What I mean by a child is; any living human under the age of 18 years old. Please don't assume that they can "hang out" in the front room with me. I may be sitting behind a desk but I am WORKING. I cannot book appointments, answer emails and phone calls if I have to keep an eye on your child. And just so this is very clear, children are NEVER EVER permitted in the work rooms. I figured that we could avoid hanging signs all over the shop stating this but I guess we can't.
Our "no smoking" sign works like a charm, I found it at an Antique Shop. Maybe I can find an equally as cool "No Children" sign with a bulldog eating a baby? Probably not.

The good with the bad
Scott left me in charge of the shop blog and it has been a lot more difficult than I thought it was going to be. I wanted to express to friends and clients how awesome Mercury Tattoo is and what we have all been up to. Sometimes life gets in the way.
My favorite Uncle passed away. He and my dad were incredibly close and almost every memory I have of childhood included Uncle Bob. I had to take some time off from the shop to be there for my family. Uncle Bob hated funeral and memorials services and any sort of organized religion really. He willed his body to science which is a pretty cool thing to do but a pretty difficult thing for your family to deal with. It makes the grieving process really hard especially for someone like my dad. My Aunt decided having a lunch in his honor with a very small group of people would be best.
Of course this Lunch was scheduled for the Sunday of the Lehigh Valley Tattoo Convention Skindustry Expo. Scott had already paid for the booth and we let a lot of folks know that he was going to be there all weekend. I told Scott he should be at the Convention and we all understood that he couldn't make the memorial lunch(Scott loved Uncle Bob too). Scott had a great time tattooing and spending time with the other tattooers at Skindustry on Friday and Saturday. He insisted on being at the memorial to support my family and me that Sunday.
I am certainly glad he was there. We were at the restaurant telling stories and remembering some of the funny things my Uncle had done when my dad complained that he wasn't feeling well. Minutes later he passed out right at the table. We all thought he was gone. I shouted for someone to call 911 and held my father's head in my hands and kept saying "stay with me dad." Finally he came around a little, his skin was gray and clammy. I was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. The EMTs got to the scene and gave him oxygen, an IV and loaded him into the Ambulance. My poor Aunt had already been through so much I felt bad she had to witness this. Scott and I drove behind the Ambulance and would spend the next 8 hours at the hospital with my family. My father is going to be fine, the adjusted his medications and kept him over night for observation. I am so grateful for the support that Scott gave to my family and me.
I am very thankful to all of my friends and a lot of clients here at Mercury who expressed their concern for my dad and their condolences for my Uncle.
I know my next post will be a more positive one. We have a lot of great things coming up in the next few months. Scott will be attending several Conventions and participating in some really exciting art shows.
